Unique sand drop-off captures interest at Naples Beach
A natural sand formation close to the Naples Pier is attracting attention and sparking curiosity. The distinctive “mini cliff,” as it has been referred to, extends from the Naples Pier to approximately 14th Avenue South.
Guests express that they have encountered nothing quite like this previously, according to a recent article by Alexa Velez of NBC2.
“I found it somewhat odd,” remarked Erick Bernstein, who was in the area. “I was uncertain whether this was created by humans or simply a result of erosion, but it feels somewhat strange.”
Seasonal residents Gary and Carol Lafrance expressed their surprise at the decrease in the sand.
“This is unprecedented,” Gary remarked. “We visited in September when Hurricane Helene occurred, and soon after came Milton. I’m curious if that played a role in it.”
Nonetheless, the City of Naples asserts that the formation is not associated with any storm. They clarified that it is simply natural erosion resulting from winter waves.
Although the sand formation appears intriguing, there are concerns regarding its potential risks for the elderly and children.
“Indeed, it is. Or if young children come running. I wonder why they can’t at least level it off and bring in some more sand, possibly,” said Lafrance.
For the kids, the drop-off is like a playground.
City officials say they plan to let nature take its course and let the sand level out on its own.
