REVEALED: 25 cities where the rich are getting richer
In some US cities, the rich are getting richer faster.
The six cities where the wealthy were able to grow their wealth best were all in California and Washington State, according to a new study by GOBankingRates.
Eighteen cities in the top 25 were located in those two West Coast states.
Topping the list was Bainbridge Island, Washington, where the average household increased its income by more than 48 percent between 2019 and 2022.
There, the percentage of households earning more than $200,000 a year increased by more than 56 percent.
Next up was Issaquah, just 20 miles to the east and on the other side of Seattle. There, average income increased 43 percent, according to the study.
It considered 100 cities with the highest mean household income and a minimum of 7,500 households according to the 2022 American Community Survey.
Those two Seattle neighborhoods were followed by four cities in California – Los Gatos, Cupertino, Santa Clara and Menlo Park – where incomes increased between 30 and 40 percent.
But the richest city overall was also Los Altos in California. There, the average household income was just over $400,000. Between 2019 and 2022 that had increased by almost 23 percent.
Massachusetts also featured heavily in the top 25 with four appearances. Those cities were Marblehead, Belmont, Wellesley and Milton.
Forest Hills in Michigan, Florida in Naples and Commack in New York were the only three cities in the top 25 cities that were not in Washington, California or Massachusetts.
All but one of the 25 cities were therefore either on the east or west coast.
