Popular 5th Ave. eatery La Trattoria is sued for ceiling collapse that wounded 9 people.
The popular Naples restaurant La Trattoria, located on Fifth Avenue South, is facing a lawsuit after its ceiling fell on Sunday, July 28.
A victim is demanding thousands of dollars in damages after claiming that the ceiling collapsed on him while he was dining at the restaurant, according to a recent article by Summerleigh Stones of NBC2
The event occurred about 6:44 p.m. and injured nine people, seven of whom were transported to the hospital.
According to the lawsuit filed on August 21, Joseph Lentine is seeking more than $50,000 in damages for what they claim is the restaurant owner’s negligence.
Lentine is also seeking an additional $50,000 from the parent firm, Grace’s Places LLC.
According to the lawsuit, Lentine went out for dinner on Sunday night, expecting a “peaceful and relaxing evening,” but instead left the restaurant gravely injured and bloodied.
According to the documents, wooden stakes, beams, and other ceiling materials pounded the people below.
Lentine says he fled the eatery with “serious, permanent, and continuing injuries.”
According to the lawsuit, La Trattoria and Grace’s Places LLC should be held liable for damages since they are responsible for “repair, maintenance, inspecting, and/or warning of dangerous conditions.”
There are still no answers about what caused the ceiling to collapse.
To reopen, the owner, Massimiliano Tonni, must obtain two permits: one to dismantle what is broken and another to approve new ideas.
