National retirement list has two Collier County spots in top 10.

Naples, Sarasota and Boca Grande, are among the best areas in Florida to retire, according to MarketBeat. The financial media business questioned 3,000 retirees or individuals nearing retirement to compile its list of the top 130 retirement destinations, and all three made the top 50.

While the Wilea area in Maui, Hawaii, took first place, Naples came in second, according to a recent article by Elizabeth King of The Business Observer.

According to MarketBeat, the Pelican Bay neighborhood in Naples is known for its “environmental conservation efforts and luxury living,” which includes “private beaches, fine dining, and active social clubs.” Marco Island, south of Naples, was ranked ninth on the list.

Those polled were asked which neighborhood they would choose to reside in if money was not a consideration.

Also on the list from the Gulf Coast were Sarasota’s Bird Key neighborhood (No. 29) and the Boca Grande hamlet on Gasparilla Island (No. 48).

According to the study organizers, the top retirement locations were spread across the country but shared many common elements.

“Retirees are looking for places that combine luxury, tranquility, and active living,” says Matt Paulson, creator of MarketBeat.com, in a statement. “These findings underscore the importance of comprehensive financial planning and the desire for a high quality of life in retirement.”

Other Florida places on the list that are not on the Gulf Coast are Southeast Gables of Coral Gables (No. 3), The Villages (No. 5), Ponte Vedra Beach (No. 19), Golden Beach (No. 23), Palm Beach (No. 26), Orlando’s Bay Hill (No. 27), Key Biscayne (No. 47), and Windermere (No. 55).
