Naples’ first rooftop restaurant on 5th Avenue South has been approved by the city council.

On 5th Avenue South, in the heart of downtown Naples, the first rooftop restaurant is starting to take shape.

“The beauty of it, overlooking such a lovely street. It would be awesome. I think it would be awesome to go up there and have the view,” stated Paula Lynch, a Naples and Canadian resident.

The initial designs for Prime Social, an outdoor and rooftop restaurant to be built over Engel & Völkers Yachting and Chop’s City Grill, were authorized by the Naples City Council, according to an article by Ryan Arbogast of NBC2 Fort Myers.

7,800 square feet will be devoted to the area above the linked structures.

“I imagine it will be difficult to gain entry,” said Andrea Roth, a fellow resident of Naples, Canada.

Members of the Planning Advisory Board talked about future uses for rooftop dining in the 5th Ave S. development district as well as restrictions on maximum capacity at the meeting on Wednesday.

Per the City regulation, which requires that spaces be used exclusively on two or three-story buildings, between seven and eight structures are currently eligible for rooftop eating.

“I think it’s a really good concept. We truly need it down here, in my opinion. That’s kind of how it was when they did Del Mar”, according to Ann MacDowell of Naples.

Among the concepts mentioned are:

Maximum capacity for all rooftops combined is 600 people.
Order of priority for the application procedure
Plan-based and merit-based application procedures
Noise regulations
Elevators
Since Del Mar usually had the upper floor available, it wasn’t shocking. Pat Treiber of Naples said, “It was overdue.

It is anticipated that the Planning Advisory Board will present its findings to the City Council for additional consideration.

October 18 is the date of the next regularly scheduled meeting.
