Man in custody with “enough fentanyl to kill 5,000 people”

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office reported that when deputies apprehended a man on Saturday night, he had enough fentanyl “to kill over 5,000 people.” The suspect is currently being held at the jail.

The sheriff’s office stated on social media that Richard Price, 58, is accused of trafficking in fentanyl and other drug-related offenses, according to a recent article by Chris Earl of Fox4.

According to deputies, Price was visiting a convenience store that had previously trespassed on him when investigators spotted him on Saturday at around 7 p.m. at U.S. 41 and Shadowlawn Drive in East Naples.

Investigators found a bag containing 11 grams of fentanyl during an arrest; the CCSO estimates that this quantity of the drug is toxic enough to kill 5,500 people. Additionally, the sheriff’s deputies reported finding meth and drug paraphernalia in the same day.

In an effort to raise awareness of the drug’s social hazards, Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk has been actively involved in the “Laced & Lethal” campaign, which aims to locate fentanyl and eradicate its usage and distribution in Southwest Florida.
