Father furious when Naples parlor tattoos underage kid without authorization
A father is upset after his 16-year-old son returned home with a full sleeve of tattoos.
According to Renee Perez, the Naples tattoo studio never received permission from him to tattoo his child in accordance with state law for anyone under the age of 18.
He contacted Naples police to see what action could be taken, according to a recent article by Taylor Wirtz of Wink News.
Christian Perez told personnel at Little Sky Tattoo in Naples that he was 19, according to his father.
“My son supposedly told them he was 19 years old,” the father explained.
He is only 16, and his father was not pleased when he returned home with a sleeve.
“I’m very upset with the fact that he’s just a minor, and he marked my son’s body without our consent as parents,” says Renee.
Florida law allows 16- and 17-year-olds to receive tattoos, but only if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian and present an ID, which Renee claims did not happen.
“He never asked for his ID.” Renee remarked, “He had him sign some consent form or something.”
Perez claimed that his son Christian signed the form stating that he was 19, and that was enough for the business to give him the ink, which he claimed as a parent he should have had a legal say over.
“I believe that when you are a certain age, you can do whatever you want, but in my house, you live by my rules,” he told me.
We spoke on the phone with Jason Raleigh, the owner of Webbworks Tattoo Studio in Naples, who was not involved in Christian’s tattoos. He stated that the policy at his workplace is straightforward.
“No ID. No tattoo. Even if they’re 75 years old,” he explained.
He stated that any reputable tattoo parlor would conduct its due diligence.
“That’s negligent, even if they look 18, and you don’t know anymore.”
Perez said he is taking legal action to ensure that this does not happen to anybody else’s child.
“It made me feel like there was no respect,” Renee stated.
