East Naples Middle School charged for threat to conduct a mass shooting

Collier County Sheriff’s Office detectives today charged an East Naples Middle School student after an investigation determined he was responsible for a threat of violence made over social media earlier this week.
The student is charged with written threats to kill or do bodily injury or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism, which is a second-degree felony under Florida Statute 836.10. He is also charged with disruption of a school function.
Through their investigation detectives determined that this was not a credible threat.
Out of an abundance of caution there was an enhanced law enforcement presence on campus today and there will also be an enhanced law enforcement presence on campus on Wednesday.
