County Commission will again discuss the traffic problems on Immokalee Road and Vanderbilt Beach Road.

January 23, 2024, at 5:00 PM the County Commission will again discuss the traffic problems on Immokalee Road and Vanderbilt Beach Road.  I have proposed a moratorium on new applications for zoning changes and site specific comprehensive land use changes on those two roadways. The purpose of that proposal is for the County to stop making a very bad traffic situation even worse on these two roadways until solutions can be identified and implemented.   In addition, our transportation staff has been tasked to come up with some immediate improvements on Immokalee Road and Vanderbilt Beach Road to help alleviate in the short term some of those problems.  I will be urging the County Commission to consider shifting funding to projects that will help.  For example, the County  may be able to loan to the Florida Department of Transportation funds to speed up intersection  improvements at the I-75 interchange on Immokalee Road.

Many citizens have written to the County Commission in support of this proposal. If you are able to attend the County Commission meeting on January 23, or to continue to email County Commissioners urging their support, that would be helpful in continuing to let the County know that something must be done now.
