Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk with breaking news concerning a fatal shooting that took place outside Cavo at the Mercato on October 8.

“Within hours of the shooting our hard-working detectives identified a suspect. Their excellent work has resulted in the arrest of the suspect this evening. Our deputies arrested Alexander Michael Evans, 32, of Southwest Florida. Evans is charged with 3 felonies committed against several victims: Murder in the 2nd degree, Battery on person over 65 years of age and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Using swift and thorough police work, our detectives collected evidence, reviewed videos submitted by the public and tracked Evans throughout Europe and back to Florida. Evans was arrested at approximately 8:45 this evening at the Fort Lauderdale airport as he was coming off a commercial flight.

As for the incident, this is an ongoing investigation but I can tell you that the encounter began as an argument that escalated into a physical altercation between two parties inside the business and then moved outside where Evans fatally wounded the victim.

The community’s help in providing video, along with our detective’s great work, has provided a strong case for the State Attorney to now prosecute in order for justice to be served. I extend my gratitude to everyone who has stepped forward with information.

We’ve been very clear about our position on crime in our community. And we have backed that up with action, and we will not stop. In fact, over the past 3 weeks alone, our Deputies have arrested more than 260 criminals with over 100 felony charges. We’ve arrested gang members, sex offenders and convicted felons and now a murder suspect.

We will not stop protecting our community from criminals. If you are committing crimes in Collier County, we commit to finding you no matter where you are trying to hide. We do not stop and never will.â€
