Arrival of orangutans at the Naples Zoo
The Naples Zoo is preparing to welcome four Bornean Orangutans.
These red-haired great apes are being brought from Tampa to the zoo for the first time in fifty years, according to a recent article by ABC7 News
43-year-old RanDee, 14 years old, and Dira, 5 years old, are DeeDee’s children.
Ripley, a 2-year-old boy who belongs to RanDee, has DeeDee as his grandmother.
According to a Tweet from the Naples Zoo, all permits, inspections, and construction have been completed.
According to a press statement from the Naples Zoo, their habitat is encircled by huge banyan trees that weave into the new cage, creating a natural atmosphere and giving them entertaining places to climb.
Two sizable viewing windows will put visitors right up close to the orangutans.
According to the statement, these animals, which are often found in the woods of Indonesia and Malaysia, have suffered from declining populations.
Their residences are being turned into palm oil farms that produce food, cosmetics, household goods, and other products.
The four orangutans must undergo a veterinarian examination and diagnostics to ensure they are in good enough health to go to Naples.
The animals are anticipated to arrive in August, however there is no set timetable for this.
