A top Naples chef will make her Food Network debut on ‘Chopped’ on January 9.
Marshmallow with alligator hearts?
Making a tasty appetizer out of those two items plus crackers and snap peas may overwhelm even the most skilled cooks.
However, most aren’t Kayla Pfeiffer, the executive chef and partner of Bicyclette Cookshop, who finds her most happiness and confidence in the kitchen—even if it’s not her own.
Prior to this, Pfeiffer worked as an executive chef at a number of well-known restaurants in Naples, including The French, Bar Tulia at Mercato, and a brief period at PJK Neighborhood Chinese, where she executed concepts established by others, according to a recent article by Diana Biederman of Naples Daily News.
This mashup in the kitchen?
New York City’s set for Food Network’s “Chopped” Ted Allen is the host of the program.
Pfeiffer and her three culinary rivals had fifteen minutes to devise a plan for handling these unusual items and prepare them in a way that would please the panel of three judges.
Among these judges was Esther Choi, who gained notoriety as the chef and proprietor of mŏkbar and mŏkbar Brooklyn, and for narrowly losing against the five Iron Chefs in the Netflix series “Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend.”
“I adore her to the moon and back. It was extremely amazing to meet her since she’s a female chef and a badass,” Pfeiffer remarked, despite the fact that there wasn’t much interaction between the judges and the competitors—just like on the program.
Pfeiffer, who made her Food Network debut, had worked at the now-closed Michelin-starred Picholine in New York City, which employed nose-to-tail products, so she was somewhat familiar with organ meats.
How did her dish come out, then?
The executives at Food Network won’t let us inform you.
But to find out, check in on January 9 at 8 p.m. if your curiosity is stirred.
