Silverspot Cinema will be closing its doors

Silverspot Cinema, a luxury movie theater, is closing its doors at Mercato, a high-end lifestyle center in north Naples.

According to a statement on its website, Silverspot will stop showing movies on July 23. The Miami-based business, which has six additional sites listed on its website, including one in Coconut Creek and one in Miami, provided few details as to why it was closing.

The website’s comment reads, “It is with mixed emotions that we share this news,” the note on the website states. “After 14 incredible years of bringing you the best in cinema, we must bid you farewell. … Before we close our doors, we invite you to seize the opportunity to enjoy our fantastic lineup of movies one last time.”

There is a gift card and rewards point Q&A on the page as well, according to an article by Mark Gordon of Business Observer.

For many years, Silverspot was a popular destination in Naples, where it contributed to the introduction of an upscale movie concept with fine dining, improved interior design, and concierge services. When the Mercato first opened in 2009, it served as the venue for the Naples International Film Festival and served as a significant lure for guests and shoppers.

Silverspot may be replaced by the Austin-based movie theater chain Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, according to rumors on social media and in various Naples news articles. According to its website, it would be the chain’s first location in Florida. Representatives from the Texas movie theater company didn’t respond to requests for comment left late on July 14. In response to inquiries regarding the location, a representative for North American Properties, which oversees Mercato, declined to comment on Alamo or any other potential replacement tenant in an email on July 16 to the Business Observer.

The spokesman writes in the note, “Silverspot Cinema’s lease is expiring and after 14 wonderful years, we have mutually agreed to part ways. We are appreciative of the community’s support for the theater and eager to set the next scene.”
