Naples Mayor Teresa Heitmann gives an update on Hurricane Ian

Our hearts and prayers are heavy with the loss of lives and tragedy our region has experienced. Our community is working to rebuild us. I am overwhelmed by the tremendous coming together of our community to help one another. Our Church based community, volunteers, FPL, SBA, FEMA, civic organizations, Red Cross and so many others are doing wonderful acts of service. The city employees were exceptional during this crisis, tirelessly working to get us back together and continue to.  We could not do this without our city. We need to have compassion for all levels of those effected by this disaster. Be kind and continue to help your fellow residents.

As of a few days ago, the City’s debris removal contractor has removed approximately 37,500 cubic yards of debris; that equates to 750 truckloads or just over 11 Olympic size swimming pools in one week. Our staff continues to work with homeowners, property managers, and FPL to energize buildings and homes. We are also working with Collier County to clean up our beaches. Please heed the warnings and stay off the beach and out of the water until the beaches can be properly cleaned; sharp objects, hazardous debris, etc. are in the water and buried in the sand. The beaches are currently not safe, and we need your help by refraining from using them, so we can properly clean and make them safe. Please check out the naplesgov.com hurricane Ian page for more resources and community updates.
