Finance firm lawsuit against Oakes Farm owner Aflie Oaks dismissed.
The $2.8 million lawsuit filed by a financing company against Aflie Oakes, owner of Oakes Farm and Seed to Table, has been dismissed.
Farm Credit of Florida has opted to dismiss the case against Oakes Farms with prejudice, as stated in a notice of voluntary dismissal, according to a recent article by Summerleigh Stones of NBC2.
The lawsuit, submitted in mid-October, alleges that Oakes secured two loans amounting to approximately $4.5 million from Farm Credit of Florida, a Farm Credit Association, for the purpose of purchasing or refinancing farmland. As of October 9, Oakes faced allegations of owing approximately $2.8 million.
In December 2019, Oakes assured that his company would fulfill both loans, but in May 2024, he provided a forbearance agreement, indicating they would not be able to pay in full.
The lawsuit stated that if Oakes failed to make full payment by August 30, 2024, Florida Farm Credit was entitled to possess Oakes’ property.
The voluntary dismissal of the case with prejudice indicates that Farm Credit of Florida is barred from initiating another action.
The documents indicate that the lawsuit concerning the property has been settled.
The connection between this lawsuit and the raid on Oakes’ home remains unclear.
Oakes’ property is free from any pending litigation that might have deterred potential buyers. He can now sell or refinance the property in question.
