Collier County Public Schools discourages sharing online school threats.

Collier County Public Schools is focusing on safety. Collier County manages 60 campuses, each with locked perimeter gating, cameras, deputies in the hallways, and building key cards.

However, social networking presents an additional element of risk, according to a recent article by Dominga Murray of FOX4.

The district held a press conference with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, during which Dr. Leslie Ricciardelli, Superintendent of Collier Schools, stated that an online school safety threat is just as dangerous as a verbal one.

“This is a key message to children that if they publish a social media threat, they will be held accountable for it. They’ll be caught since technology allows you to trace everything. We’re just making sure they know the regulations, and we communicate that information with their parents,” she explained.

Their message to students is to report internet threats, not repost them. This helps to stop the spread of misleading information.

“When you make a threatening post, it is going to be dealt with, with a sense of urgency… and then also with the same consistency as if it were a real threat,” claimed Dr. Ricciardelli.
