600-pound, 12-foot alligator caught outside Florida mall
Shoppers in Southwest Florida watched in astonishment as crews captured a 12-foot alligator.
In Estero, Florida, the alligator was spotted outside the Coconut Point Mall.
The enormous alligator weighs 600 pounds, according to a Facebook post from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
To put that in perspective, the state record for the length of an American alligator was a 14-foot, 3-and-a-half-inch male that was taken from Lake Washington in Brevard County, according to the website of the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The Lee County sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook that “there truly is never a dull moment while on patrol here.”
The large gator will be moved to a safer body of water, according to the sheriff’s office.
